The Truth About Online CNA Training
Short answer: There is no legitimate fully online CNA program in California.
California Department of Public Health (CDPH) mandates that CNA certification requires 100+ hours of hands-on clinical training with real patients at approved facilities. This is non-negotiable. Title 22 CCR §71835 is clear: you must demonstrate clinical competency in person, under supervision, with actual patients.
Any program claiming to offer a "fully online" CNA certification is either:
- • Not CDPH-approved (not a valid California CNA credential)
- • A scam (taking your money for a certificate that won't pass NCLEX or employer verification)
- • Fraudulent (claiming to offer something state law prohibits)
The reality: Online CNA theory is possible and legal. But online clinical hours are not. LMCC's hybrid model respects this reality and CDPH law.
LMCC's Approach
How the Hybrid Model Works
Online theory learning + in-person clinical training = legitimate, CDPH-approved, fastest CNA path in California.
Days 1-10: Online Theory
Schedule
Mon-Fri, 4pm-10:30pm PT via live Zoom
60 Clock Hours of Theory
- • Patient safety & infection control
- • Vital signs (measurement and interpretation)
- • HIPAA & patient rights
- • Basic anatomy & physiology
- • Communication & professionalism
- • Legal & ethical foundations
Delivery
Live Zoom sessions with your instructor. Not pre-recorded. Interactive Q&A, real-time feedback. CDPH-approved per HSC §1337.1(b)(1).
Access
Join from home, work, or anywhere with internet. Records available for review.
Days 11-31: In-Person Clinical
Schedule
Mon-Fri, 3pm-8pm PT at partner skilled nursing facilities
102 Clock Hours of Hands-On Clinical
- • Direct patient care under supervision
- • Patient transfers & mobility assistance
- • Vital signs measurement (hands-on)
- • Personal hygiene & grooming assistance
- • Feeding & hydration assistance
- • Real-world healthcare experience
Facilities
CDPH-approved skilled nursing facilities near Pomona with 16 hours of foundational training before direct patient contact.
Supervision
Licensed instructors and clinical supervisors present at all times.
Why this works: CNA theory is knowledge-based and can be taught online. Clinical skills must be learned by doing with real patients under direct supervision. LMCC separates these two requirements appropriately. You get the flexibility of online learning where it counts, and the hands-on training required by law to become a competent, safe nursing assistant.
Online vs. In-Person: What Gets Taught Where
Online (Days 1-10)
Knowledge & Concepts
- ✓Anatomy & physiology basics
- ✓Vital signs theory (how to interpret)
- ✓Infection control protocols
- ✓Patient safety principles
- ✓HIPAA & confidentiality laws
- ✓Patient rights & dignity
- ✓Communication techniques
- ✓Professionalism & ethics
In-Person (Days 11-31)
Hands-On Skills & Experience
- ✓Measuring vital signs (blood pressure, temp, pulse, respiration)
- ✓Patient transfers & mobility assistance
- ✓Bed-making & linen changes
- ✓Personal hygiene & grooming assistance
- ✓Feeding & hydration assistance
- ✓Toileting & incontinence care
- ✓Direct patient interaction & care delivery
- ✓Real healthcare environment experience
Why it's split this way: You can learn about patient care online. But you can only learn how to do patient care by practicing with real patients under supervision. Both components are essential. Both are required by California law. LMCC provides both.
Red Flags: How to Spot CNA Scams
If you're shopping for online CNA training, watch for these warning signs. Legitimate programs (like LMCC) won't have any of these.
🚩 "Fully Online CNA"
Any program claiming to offer a completely online CNA is violating California law. There are no exceptions. Clinical hours must be in-person with real patients.
🚩 No Clinical Facilities Mentioned
If they don't list specific partner facilities or clinical sites, they don't have them. A real program names its partners and their locations.
🚩 Not CDPH-Approved
Verify the school at BPPE.ca.gov. If it's not on the list, the certificate it issues won't be recognized by employers or the state.
🚩 Suspiciously Cheap Tuition
If it's $500 or less, be skeptical. Legitimate programs have real facilities, instructors, and overhead. Cheap programs often cut corners on quality.
🚩 Pre-Recorded Only
If all instruction is pre-recorded videos with no live instructor access, you can't ask questions or get real-time feedback. Live instruction matters.
🚩 Guarantees of Passing
No program can guarantee you'll pass the state exam. If they do, they're lying. A real program shows you their actual pass rate (like LMCC's 95%).
🚩 No Contact Info
If you can't find a phone number, physical address, or real staff contacts, it's a red flag. Legitimate schools are transparent.
🚩 Fake Reviews Only
If all reviews are 5 stars and suspiciously vague ("Great program!"), they're likely fake. Real reviews are mixed and specific.

Why LMCC's Hybrid Model Works
Legal & CDPH-Approved
Online theory delivery is approved under HSC §1337.1(b)(1) and 22 CCR §71835(k). Clinical training remains 100% in-person as required. LMCC operates within California law, not around it.
Real Clinical Sites
CDPH-approved skilled nursing facilities near Pomona. Real patients. Real supervision. Not a simulation. Not a video. You get hands-on experience that employers and the state recognize.
Live Instruction (Not Pre-Recorded)
Zoom sessions with your actual instructor. Real-time questions. Immediate feedback. Discussion. Not a video you pause and rewind. Live learning is proven more effective.
95% Pass Rate Proves It Works
LMCC graduates pass the California CNA state exam on their first attempt at a 95% rate (BPPE 2024). This is not a claim—it's verified data. The hybrid model produces competent, exam-ready CNAs.
Flexible for Working Adults
PM session (4pm-10:30pm) lets you work mornings during the online phase. Then transition to in-person clinicals 3pm-8pm. Many students maintain part-time jobs while training.
87% Employed Within 6 Months
LMCC graduates get hired. Real healthcare facilities trust LMCC graduates because the program is rigorous, honest, and produces competent nursing assistants ready to work.
