California CNA program requirements at LMCC

The 7 things every CNA applicant needs

California CDPH and LMCC admissions both check these. None are optional, but most are quick to handle.

1. 1

   Age 16 or older

   Minimum age for CNA training in California is 16. Applicants under 18 need a parent or guardian co-signature on enrollment paperwork.

2. 2

   Government-issued photo ID + Social Security number

   Driver's license, state ID, or passport. SSN is required for state CNA registry submission and W-9 if you work clinical hours.

3. 3

   Current TB test or chest x-ray

   Most clinical sites require a TB skin test (PPD) within the last 12 months, OR a chest x-ray within the last 5 years if you've previously tested positive.

4. 4

   Live Scan fingerprint background check

   CDPH submits your prints to the California Department of Justice and FBI. Most prior records are reviewable; LMCC admissions can advise before you apply if you're worried about disqualifiers.

5. 5

   Basic English literacy

   The California state CNA exam is in English. Spanish-speaking applicants are welcome — LMCC has bilingual instructors and study materials, and many of our graduates passed with limited initial English.

6. 6

   Required vaccinations

   MMR, Tdap, hepatitis B, varicella, annual flu, and COVID-19 vaccinations may be required by individual clinical partner facilities. We give you the full checklist after enrollment.

7. 7

   Physical exam (clearance for clinical work)

   Most students complete this with their primary care provider; clinical sites require it before the rotation begins.
